EXPLORING THE MOTIVATING JOURNEY OF MR. S. RAMCHANDRAN
My journey began in 1965, although I have been in Glass fibre for a long time, as a material system I was attracted to this … this product or this branch of technology. Being a Chemical Engineer, I devoted my time to this material system, because this material system is very innovative. When you combine two or three materials and also give solutions to the market on mainly on substitution, you have to have a lot of skills in design and how you apply the product into the market. So that way, it has been a good journey for me.
THE COMPOSITE INDUSTRY GROWTH STORY
I think the Composite industry has definitely got better and got upgraded in the last five to seven years. Why? It is because the advent of the Fiber Optic cable industry, the auto component industry, because of the auto and transportation etc., with more production of auto vehicles, auto component industry- an industry we know, are major parts, as you know, even for exports. Replacement of Fossil fuel with renewable energy, definitely composite will play a greater role.
THE COMPOSITE INDUSTRY GROWTH STORY
Success mantra for me is that Composite material solutions have to be taken in totality, as a total package. One of the challenges of the composite industry, when you go with the package to the end-user whether it is the Rail sector or Power sector, any sector, it is the Direct cost that they will compare with the conventional material. It does not work like that, it has its own life cycle cost, advantages. But very few people appreciate life cycle cost in India, especially the end buyers, and they would rather prefer a substandard material, and go on repairing it every year or two, and that has been the kind of mantra in this whole country, in our country. So you have to break this and mindset and cycle. And it can only happen if market players come in with some technology investment, market development also long haul, and believe in the material solution system.
JUSHI INDIA PRESENT AND FUTURE
Jushi India’s role: Jushi is the leading glass fibre manufacturer in the world today. If my statistics are correct, they are nearly 2 million tonnes of glass fibre, there will be in 2021, and which is about 35% of the market, world market share. The growth plan of Jushi India is definitely on, as far growing Jushi India is concerned, they are investing $246 million in phase one. Investment is on the project of this kind takes time for execution in India, but if we are on our way and Jushi India’s plans, its 10 years plan - doubling the capacity in five years time. That means an additional two hundred the total investment, which we have written down to the Government of Maharashtra is $500 million which is one of the largest in Maharashtra, and naturally, with the glass fibre coming in we will be taking a lot of promotional efforts in our supply chain also. So that will be the plan of Jushi India and they will just follow the Global scene as far as glass fibre is concerned.
EXHIBITING WITH MESSE FRANKFURT
My view is very simple in this as mentioned elsewhere also, Technical Textiles as well as Composites, it's a welcome combination actually because we are also dependent on one form of Technical Textile which gets into the supply chain and Messe Frankfurt getting into it is a welcome situation for me, because as I have- I am mentioning to you there is not a single institution which does serve - serves the purpose of Composite solutions as a whole in the marketplace today.
